Planning
1. Knowledge Gaining: Students will gain and apply knowledge about American values and citizenship. The students will gain knowledge about American values by watching videos about The Declaration of Independence and The U.S. Constitution. They will explore the meaning of our individual rights on the Bill of Rights website and apply their knowledge of civics by taking the citizenship quiz and constitutional quiz. The founding fathers game might give then some idea for topics for their final project. The students will observe credible websites like Ben’s website about American government, the History channel, and Bill of Rights Institute. This will help them research for their final project.

2. Knowledge Organizing: The students will share ideas and discuss American rights and citizenship on the wiki’s discussion board. This will help the students reflect on their feelings about American values and the responsibility of citizens. The students will communicate their ideas and communicate with other students on the discussion board. This will teach the students how to interact appropriately with peers using technology. This will also help the students develop skills which will benefit them when completing the final project.

3. Knowledge Sharing: The students will complete the “An American I Admire” project. The student will choose an American that they admire and who portrays important American values and citizenship. The students will independently research the person of their choice and create an informational brochure about that person. The students will use Kidspiration to make an outline to organize their information. The students will enter their information onto the brochures and cite the websites they used. The students will share their brochures with the class.

Preparation

1. The teacher will find websites and videos with information about American citizenship and values.
2. The teacher will plan what activities she want the students to complete.
3. The teacher will create a wiki page and discussion board on the wiki for the students.
4. The teacher will reserve time in the computer lab at school for the students to work on this project.
5. The teacher will prepare instructions for the final project and an example of the final project.
6. The teacher read the discussion board posts to informally assess what the students comprehend.
7. The teacher will approve topics for the final project and review Kidspiration outlines and give students feedback on their project.
8. The teacher will assist students and give feedback during their completion of the final project.
9. The teacher will listen to the students present their brochures to the class and grade the final products.
